Greene County Development Corporation will join Ames Regional Economic Alliance

In a historic move, Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) elected today to join the Ames Regional Economic Alliance (AREA). AREA (subject to board approval) will provide GCDC organizational administration, business retention and expansion, housing, and workforce development expertise as well as communication, website, and media support. Transition is scheduled to begin later this month, with strategic planning to restart later this year.

Greene County has celebrated several successes in recent years including a new high school and career academy, the early learning center, restoration of the Centennial and most recently the 2025 Great American Main Street Award for Jefferson – just to name a few. GCDC is well positioned to use this momentum to boost local economic develop efforts; joining a successful alliance will amplify the impact.

AREA has a long history of successful organizational partnerships across Central Iowa, currently with over 750 members, $238,000,000 in capital investments, hosting more than 100 community events annually. CEO Dan Culhane’s proven track record of success, AREA’s extensive economic development presence along the Highway 30 corridor, and their powerful relationship with Iowa State University make this an ideal partnership for Greene County.
